Full Description

62604 Cropmark enclosures and a possible drove road have been noted on aerial photographs to the north east of Sutton. These features have been interpreted as a later prehistoric settlement. {1}{2}{3}{4} The National Monuments Record printout states that 'Romano-British settlement enclosures and droveways are visible as cropmarks on Davey aerial photographs. Other good quality aerial photographs revealed cropmark enclosures of a settlement of possible Iron Age or Roman date. The settlement consists of a group of conjoined ditched enclosures, centred at SK 8817 5257. Several small rectangular enclosures, on average 15m by 10m and 40m by 20m can be identified and are assocaited with larger enclosures. Some ditches overlap suggesting more than one phase of archaeology'. {5}
