Full Description

Former school. Single storey T-plan rendered and whitewashed brick building, under a pitched gabled slate roof. Windows have stone hood moulds and bullnose brick edging. The front gable has a datestone reading 'BECKINGHAM SCHOOL 1840', with painted decorative bargeboards and finial above. There are two sympathetically built extensions to the rear. {1} White's 1856 Trade Directory states that the National School was built in 1840 by the patron and rector. {2} The school is shown in its T-shape plan form on both the 1887 and 1905 OS maps of Beckingham. {3}{4}
