Full Description
PRN 62599
Late Saxon pottery and a fragment of quern/millstone reused as a grinder or hone were recovered during an auger survey in 1998. The pottery may derive form Hanbeck deserted medieval village (see PRN 62736); if so, this would suggest an earlier date for the settlement than was known previously. Charred processed cereal grain and a fragment of quern/millstone from the same deposit suggest grain processing took place in the vicinity; the quantity of grain suggests storage close by. These deposits may be associated with a mill mentioned in the Domesday entry for Wilsford.{1}{2}
