Full Description

PRN 33446 Native-type Roman settlement site at Deeping St James, which surface variation on air cover suggests is part of a larger complex, visited 1952. A scatter of c.2nd-4th century pottery sherds , predominately late, bones teeth, nails, shells, disc quern fragments, and a few pieces of shelly limestone was seen over a sandy gravel hillock. Burnt earth and pieces of stone were reported. No dressed building stone was found but this is the site of a purported corn drying oven. There was also reported pottery and occupation debris from this site and also TF1730 1025 and TF1704 1065. {1}{2}
