Full Description
PRN 13635
Excavations revealed a series of five metalled surfaces unconnected with Haven House (PRN 13634), dating to the 15th to 16th centuries. Flood deposits were also recorded, showing how vulnerable this part of Boston was during this period. A brick path also dating to this period was recorded, directly overlying a previous brick path. The pathway ran between the site of the entrance gate and the door of the Grammar School. A cylindrical soft water cistern was recorded dating to the mid too late eighteenth century. This was probably constructed to collect rainwater from the roof of the schoolmaster's house, but its position meant that it may have also been used by the school. 13th to 14th century pottery was recovered, together with waterlogged timber from the flood deposits. {1}{2}
