Full Description

62546 There is a small Wesleyan Methodist Chapel located at 58 Main Road. {1}{2} The site was visited in 2009. The chapel, which is situated next door to 58 Main Road, was built in 1886 as a successor to the chapel in Chapel Lane which still survives (PRN 65619). It closed in 1996 and now appears to be disused. It is built of red brick with a gabled roof with a slate covering. The side elevation to the street has three bays of paired windows with original metal frames by Duckering of Lincoln and chamfered window jambs with hoodmoulds which have hollow mouldings and ashlar sills. The north east gable has a gabled porch with a pointed door and window. The opposite gable elevation has two bays of paired windows and there are small triangular openings in both gables. There is an ashlar tablet in the gable above the porch "Wesleyan Chapel 1886". The eaves cornices and gable verges have nailhead ornament. The chapel stands on a brick plinth. A gabled annexe attached to the rear has a segmental-headed door and the same decorative features and probably represents a Sunday School. Another gabled annexe has been added at some time. {3}{4}
