Full Description

62494 A Wesleyan Methodist chapel was built on the east side of Main Street in 1848. It is recorded on maps up until the 1970s. The building now on the site is called 'The Chapels', and it is not clear if any of the original building survives. {1}{2}{3} The site was visited in 2009. The first chapel was built in 1848 on the west side of Main Street and may still survive, much altered, as a house (PRN 65624). The earlier chapel was replaced in 1874 by a new building, almost directly opposite, on the east side of the road. This chapel closed in 1982 and was subsequently demolished. The chapel is described in the English Heritage Inventory as having a gabled west front with polychrome decoration and tall arched windows, dated 1874. The site is now occupied by modern semi-detached houses (81A and B).{4}{5}{6}
