Full Description

19th century school building. One and a half storey rendered and colourwashed brick building, under a pitched gabled slate roof. The gabled porch has a small bell tower, with bell still in situ. Coped gables. One lateral stack. A number of large modern classroom blocks have been erected to the rear of the building on the same site. {1} A school was built in Swinderby in 1822, enlarging a house for the purpose. This was replaced in 1849 by a new building, which catered for the free education of 12 poor children in the parish. It is unclear if the building mentioned here is the extant building. {2}{3} Both the 1887 and 1905 OS maps of Swinderby show the school in an L-shape plan form, with a small extension at the northern end added between the two dates. {4}{5}
