Full Description

62383 One of a pair of mills, both towers, this was built in 1840 to replace a post mill and in 1841 various spare parts from this were sold, including four 'roller reefing' sails and a pair of 'black' (or 'cullen') stones. The second mill had gone by the turn of the century but the remaining one worked until about 1930. It eventually lost its cap but the tower retained all its gear until the early 1980s when the stones were taken to Sneinton mill, Nottingham, together with gearing and other parts, to be used in the restoration of 'Green's mill'. The wire machine, one of the last to remain in this country, was taken to Bardwell, Suffolk in 1984 where it is now being put to good use in a windmill. All that remains in the mill now is the smutter. {1} For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {2}
