PRN 62362
A Wesleyan Methodist Chapel was constructed on Victoria Street in 1832. {1}{2}
The current building was built as a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in 1869 and opened on 18th January 1870. It is built of yellow brick and has a circular date panel in the front gable. The older chapel was destroyed by fire in 1864. {3}
The site was visited in 2009. The chapel is still in use as a Methodist place of worship. The first Wesleyan chapel in Billinghay was built in 1817 and was replaced by a new chapel in King Street in 1832 (PRN 65653) which was replaced in turn by a chapel in Victoria Street in 1867. That chapel was demolished and the present Victoria Street chapel was built in 1870. The raised gable forms a parapet with a broad verge set on small brackets with a lunette in the gable. The three-bay front has round-arched windows with Venetian Tracery set in three round-arched, stepped recesses. The recesses have moulded ashlar imposts which form a continuous band across the front. The central doorway, below the central window, is a modern replacement. The side elevations have five bays of round-arched plastic windows separated by pilasters. The organ and original screens survive internally.{4}{5}{6}
