Full Description

There is a petrol pump, located on High Street, Great Gonerby. It was one of three which were placed there when the adjacent garage business was started in 1924 by the father of the present owner. Two of the three pumps have now been removed. It had a series of glass finials on the top, of various companies, including National Benzole, Shell and Regent. The mechanism worked by turning a handle 360 degrees, inserting the nozzle into where the petrol was to be dispensed and turning the tap. This dispensed one gallon. This process should be repeated to dispense further gallons of petrol. There is a dial inside the pump which indicates how many gallons have been dispensed. It is thought that the pump fell out of use in the 1950s, and now has extensive corrosion on it. {1}
