Full Description

PRN 35651 During excavation at circa TF1085 2121, a large east/west aligned ditch was recorded. The ditch was circa 3.8m in width and crossed the full width of the investigation area. Aerial photographs show the ditch extends to the west where it turns south after a short distance, and the cropmarks suggest an entrance on the western side. It is therefore assumed to be an enclosure ditch. No indication of internal or external banks or for recutting was found. Pottery found in the fill proved to be undateable. Five postholes also recorded had no noticeable form or pattern.{1}{2} A ring ditch (see PRN 34114) dating probably to the middle Bronze Age lies centrally within the enclosure. The middle Bronze Age features and evidence from the Fenland Survey (see PRN 34114) may suggest a date of circa 1850 to 1000 BC for the enclosure.{1}{2}
