Full Description
The current Methodist chapel on the High Street was built in 1869. It is of stock brick. {1}
The site was visited in 2009. This chapel superseded the earlier chapel in the Smoot which still survives much altered (PRN 62332). It opened in 1869, closed in 1982 and is now in use as a house. It is built of yellow gault brick and has a three-bay gabled front with round-arched openings which have ashlar keystones, imposts and sills. The central square-headed doorway has double doors with fielded panels and architrave above with a round-arched opening above. The border of the lunette in the gable is dated 1869. The gable verges include terracotta nailhead and gault brackets supporting double sections of roll-moulding. The side elevations have three bays of round-arched windows and brackets in the eaves cornices. All windows have been replaced with plastic and an internal floor has been inserted. The hipped building with flat-headed windows attached behind, which is now used as a garage, probably represents a former school room. {2}{3}{4}
