Full Description

62327 A chapel dedicated to St Oswald and given by King John to Spalding Abbey is believed to have stood in the centre of Walcott village, about 200 yards west of the Methodist chapel, between School Lane and Dene Lane. A chapel in Walcott is also mentioned in the late twelfth century, when Catley Priory received it as an endowment 'unburdened because it is annexed to the church of Billinghay'. {1}{2}{3} The chapel is reported in the eighteenth century as having a nave, chancel, bell-cote, a carved oak chancel screen and oak seats. It became disused after the death of the incumbant in 1784, and was pulled down in about 1790. A new church was built in 1852 (62322). {4}
