Full Description

In 1753, Mrs Mary King bequeathed two houses with gardens, 8 acres of land and a right of cutting turf on the fen for the education of poor children of Martin. By 1856, the school property consisted of a house, a school room, a barn and a stable. 3 closes and an allotment were awarded at Enclosure. The school was rebuilt in 1842, and was used for divine service. {1}{2} The school and house can be seen on the 1889 and 1905 OS maps of Martin. {3}{4} Former school and schoolmaster's house. Buff brick buildings under pitched gabled slate roofs. The school is still in use and has several modern red brick extensions, while the schoolmaster's house is now a private residence. {5}
