Full Description

PRN 23731 During a watching brief, a series of evenly spaced medieval and post medieval ditches were recorded, all aligned north-west/south-east. It is thought that the ditches were possibly field boundaries or dylings. Some limited artefactual evidence was recovered from the ditches, amounting to: - two 10th-12th century pottery sherds and burnt clay, and six 12th-14th century pottery sherds as well as animal bone and clinker. This slight assemblage is suggestive of activity on the fringes of a settlement. Late post medieval and modern ditches have been recorded together with some pottery sherds of the same date, suggesting that some of the earlier ditches have been recut. {1}{2}
