62072 Blankney is recorded as a manor belonging to Walter de Aincurt in the Domesday Book, with a minimum population of 36. {1} The name Blankney means 'Blanca's island of land' from Old English. {2} In 1315 a charter for a market was granted to Edmund de Eyncurt, which was held on a Tuesdays in late May/early June (which changed to Saturday after 1325). {3} There were 40 households there in 1563. {4} The population in 1801 was 410, which rose to 579 in 1901. {5} The village today is one of the best examples of an estate village in Lincolnshire.
