Full Description
PRN 62217
Trial trenches positioned over anomalies identified by geophysical survey revealed a series of pits, gullies and ditches. The pits are thought to be connected with sand and gravel extraction and have been left to silt naturally. Post medieval ditches and gullies were also identified from which a small assemblage of mainly late 18th to early 19th century pottery sherds and some tile was recovered. It is thought that the ditches and gullies form part of the post medieval enclosure of the land. Stapleford was not enclosed by act of parliament but by a private enclosure. {1}{2}{3}
