Full Description
PRN 13599
Trial trenching activity on the site revealed a rubbish pit and pottery sherds dating from the 10th - 16th centuries, the pottery though is thought to have been deposited here through cultivation rather than occupation. Fired clay which is thought to be briquetage was also recovered indicating saltmaking in the vicinity, although the lack of burning evidence makes saltworking in situ unlikely.{1}{2}
A watching brief was undertaken during groundworks at High Street, Bicker prior to development. A medieval ditch and two pits were uncovered, together with 36 sherds of 12th to 16th century pottery. {3} {4}
