62001 Blankney and Metheringham railway station on the Great Northern and Great Eastern from Spalding to Doncaster. {1}{2} The former Railway Control Building, Station Yard at 62001a was built at the start of the Second World War as an Emergency Railway Control Building for the region, to become active in the event of the Control Room in Lincoln being taken out of action by bombing. The outer walls are red brick and with a flat reinforced concrete roof. The original windows survive, with heavy steel surrounds. The steel shutters to close the openings have gone but their hinges remain as well as the stays for fixing them back in their open position. A new entrance has been created on the west elevation, with double doors, to facilitate its more recent use as a railway store. A small extension to the north side has also been removed. Much of the former Metheringham station has been demolished. A small late 19th century building, probably a former Lamp Room or Porters Room survives adjacent to the Control Building. The signal box and a pair of modern platforms remain, as does a former Weigh Bridge building and store in what was the goods yard. The station is still in use but now called Metheringham Station. {3} The signal box at the station is a listyed building (see PRN 65799).
