Full Description
PRN 44262
A burnt mound was recorded with an adjacent pit during a watching brief. In the mound burnt stone and heat shattered flint, worked flint and fired clay. The pit yielded finds of a simlilar type with together Bronze Age pottery, four sherds from the same single Collared Urn vessel. The pit exhibits characteristics of both a hearth and trough. Although burnt mounds are usually associated with a trough. A palaeochannel was also recorded and although this is believed to be 10 000 years old the burnt mound at its edge suggests that water was present within the channel when the mound was formed.{1}{2}
