Full Description

Four Bronze Age urns were discovered in 1882, during construction of the Blankney to Metheringham section of the Lincoln to Spalding railway. The vessels were thought to have been recovered from the area around Brickyard Farm in Blankney. They were removed by R.W.Campion who later presented two to Derby Museum and a third to St Albans Museum. The fate of the fourth is unknown. All three surviving vessels were biconical urns and are now in City and County Museum. Cremated bone from three separate individuals was found in one of the urns, although it was thought likely that the remains had been amalgamated into this vessel from each of the separate surviving vessel. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}
