Full Description

61934 A disused quarry is marked on the 1905 County Series map, which appears to have fallen out of use by the 1950s. {1}{2} In 1874 a small mine is said to have opened at Coleby, south of Lincoln. This was at the top of the scarp of the Lincoln Edge and the first edition of the six inch Ordnance Survey map does show a tramway running down the hillside to the Lincoln to Grantahm railway line. It is not clear if this ever went into production or whether it was an underground mine. Given that ironstone quarries in a similar location were worked in Waddington to the north and Leadenham ro the south, it may be that this was not intended to be an underground mine.{3}
