Full Description

61847 The Primitive Methodist chapel on Chapel Lane is marked on OS maps, and is still extant. {1}{2} The site was visited in 2009. The small red brick building has a gabled roof with modern concrete tiles and continues in use as a place of worship. The original building, which was enlarged to the left in 1870, had a broad three-bay front with segmental-arched windows and door with a divided light above and an ashlar lintel. The stone tablet above the door is inscribed 'Primitive Methodist Jubilee Chapel enlarged 1870'. The gable elevation of the enlarged chapel includes round-arched windows with yellow gault brick dressings. The attached Sunday School has a slate roof and square-headed plastic windows and a square-headed door with a divided light above. The foundation stones are dated 1925. The original iron railings survive.{3}{4}{5}
