Full Description

PRN 35401 During a watching brief, human bone fragments were found, prompting a full excavation, which revealed an early Anglo-Saxon inhumation cemetery. Thirty burials were excavated, with evidence that the cemetery extended beyond the bounds of the excavation. The burials were dated to the 6th century from grave goods, which included beads, knives, brooches, a sleeve clasp, girdle hangers and one complete pottery vessel. The more common brooch forms appear to be absent from the site, while more exotic forms were present. A lack of sleeve clasps was also noted, with one exception.{1}
