Full Description

PRN 23700 A geophysical survey and trial trenching recorded features relating to medieval settlement, in the form of what are thought to be sunken featured buildings and a north/south linear feature. The sunken features comprised four earth-cut flat bottomed features, one of which had two sub-circular hollows at its eastern end. A 12th-13th century cooking pot containing domestic environmental remains was found standing in the bottom of this feature, supporting the conclusion that the features were truncated sunken featured buildings of a domestic nature. See also PRN 20150.{1}{2}{3} A watching brief over the road from the above site at TF 2415 2664 yeilded only a single sherd of 14th-15th cenury Toynton All Saints ware.
