Full Description

61807 Nocton pumping engine on Nocton Delph is marked on the 1905 County Series OS map. In 1831 an act was obtained for improving the drainage of Nocton, Potter Hanworth and Nocton. Steam engines were erected in various places both in the above and other parishes on this side of the Witham, of which this is presumably one. These would probably have replaced the wind-powered mills marked on the 1824 OS first edition 1 inch map. It is not clear how many of the buildings were part of the complex, and which survive to the present. {1}{2}
