Full Description

PRN 44022 At the time of Domesday, as part of the South Riding of Lindsey, the settlements of Hallington and Kelstern, Raithby by Louth and Raithby by Maltby were held by Earl Hugh, containing sokeland of the manor of Tathwell, and had a minumum population of 61 people.{1} The placename Raithby derives from the Old Norse personal name 'Hreithi' and the Old Danish 'by', translating as 'Hreithi's farmstead/village'.{2}{3} The Diocesan Return of 1563 records 21 households for Raithby cum Maltby, by then part of the Deanery of Louthesk.{4} During a site visit, earthwork possible building platforms were recorded at TF 3098 8491 and TF 3120 8465.{5}
