Full Description

44010 Earthworks have been noted in a field to the west of Limepits Farm in South Thoresby (see (e) on map). It is thought that these may represent the remains of a watermill and a leat which encloses an area east of the present course of the stream. A hollow way appears to run from the main village road west to the mill site through the ridge and furrow. The pond to the north (f) could be a fishpond which once fed off the stream. The site was not examined during the site visit in May 2001. {1}{2} There is an entry in Domesday Book for sokeland of Greetham manor being located in South Thoresby, along with other areas of sokeland in other parishes. Six mills are included in this entry, one of which may have been located in South Thoresby. {3}
