A hoard of gold 100-peseta Spanish coins (18 or 19 in all) was found in 1928 in Branston. The date of deposition was c.1802. (Stamford Mercury 28/9/29 [error for 1928]). {1}
Erroneously assigned to Potterhanworth in source 2 on p.42 although correctly assigned on p.39. {2}
An inquiry by the Lincoln South District Coroner on the finding of 18 gold coins at Potterhanworth [error for Branston] was reported in The Times, in the Stamford Mercury, in the Lincolnshire Echo and in the Lincolnshire Chronicle. The coins were said to be 100-peseta pieces worth originally £4 16s., which had been out of circulation for 60 years. The coins were declared treasure trove and the property of the Crown. {3}{4}{6}{7}
Find of Spanish American onzas at Branston, Lincolnshire, on 20 June 1928. The eighteen gold coins in the find were all onzas of Charles IV of Spain struck in Central or South America dated between 1790 and 1802, 2 from Mexico, 6 from Nicaragua and 10 from Peru one of which was from Lima. {5}
