Full Description

PRN 35343 Late 18th century house with contempory outbuilding in garden. The garden also contains medieval fragments possibly from a church restoration or the old priory. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {5} The Priory is a late Georgian brick-built detached house with gardens. The building has three storeys with rusticated stone quoins, and a moulded string course below the stone cornice and parapet. The front elevation (facing west) has three flush frame windows to the second storey, with glazing bars and flat brick arches, below which are three sash windows. A central doorway to the ground floor lies between two splayed bay windows. The doorway has a later stone porch with square panelled piers and moulded caps. The piers support a plain architrave with a blocking course and a cornice. The blocking course bears a stone shield with a coat of arms of unknown provenance.{1}{2}{3}{4} Building recording and a watching brief were carried out, during which separate phases of building work were identified, providing a relative chronology from the late 18th century to the 20th century.{1}{2} The medieval arches in the garden were set up in the late 19th century, and are said to have come from a church near Lincoln. {4}
