During a watching brief, the remains of north/south aligned medieval ridge and furrow were recorded, truncated by later ploughing. It would appear, however, that these were actually the differentially preserved remnants of two successive field systems, as two of the selions were only separated by 0.2m and a double furrow had also been formed. All of the furrows have the same alignment, so it seems that the later strips were laid out with respect to their predecessors, possibly due to a reallocation/redivision of the lands around the village. A medieval field boundary may lie at the southern end of the site - no furrows were observed in the south-west corner of the site, although prehistoric remains were observed, suggesting that this area did not lie in an open field. Both the redefinition of the field system and the lack of furrows towards the southern end of the site are echoed in a site circa 350m to the east (PRN 60607). It is possible that a medieval furlong boundary may lie along the eastern boundary of the site, as the furrows had the same orientation as the boundary. Undated pits found across the site are thought to be contemporaneous with the ridge and furrow.{1}{2}
