Full Description

A type 23, three-bay concrete anti-aircraft pillbox, to the north of the mouth of the River Witham, Freiston. {1}{2} The pillbox was the subject of a programme of building recording, prior to being buried during reinforcement of the floodbank in 2001. A typical type 23 pillbox was rectangular, half-roofed and half-open, with a light anti-aircraft weapon in the open section. This pillbox was built either on a small mound or an existing floodbank. {3}{4}
