The name 'Spelhou' and 'Spelhow' from the Old English 'spel' (speech) and 'haugr' (hill), meaning occurs in thirteenth century documents referring to Nettleton parish. The site is unlocated. However, the proximity of Nettleton to Cabourne and Thoresway parishes, where similar names have been identified should be noted. {1}
