The name 'thingehowe syke' is recorded in the fifteenth century in Owersby parish. It is derived the Old Norse 'thing' meaning 'meeting, court of justice' and 'haugr' meaning 'hill' nad the Old Norse 'sik' meaning 'ditch'. This suggests that there may have been a meeting place for the wapentake of Walshcroft, although the location is unknown. {1}
