Full Description

61403 'Spellar Wood' is a place name recorded in the parish of Honington in the wapentake of Threo. It is first recorded as Spellou in the early twelfth century and derived from the Old English 'spell' and 'hoh' meaning 'assembly mound'. The wood does indeed lie on the end of a small spur which extends south from the higher ground on which Gelston and Hough on the Hill are situated. {1}
