Loveden wapentake is apparently named from Loveden Hill, from the Old English personal name Lufa and 'dun' which is Old English for hill. It is the site of an extensive Anglo-Saxon cemetery, and it is a small but pronounced hill with very extensive views over the level, low-lying land to the north and west. {1}
