Full Description

PRN 43907 Calceby parish is located within Calceworth Wapentake. The first element (Calce) of both place-names derives from an Old Norse personal name (Kalfr). The 'worth' element of Calceworth derives from the Old Norse meaning 'ford'. It is suggested that this may refer to the ford just to the west of Calceby (TF 387 757), as they share the same derivation. The Wapentake meeting place is unknown, but it may be in this area, and it would be on the extreme western boundary of the Wapentake. {1}
