Full Description
A plover catch was recorded during a watching brief. The catch consists of an internal rectangular bank measuring 20m by 5.5m, surrounded by a square shallow depression holding water to a depth of about 0.15m. A small hut containing a tripod and winch stands a short distance away. The winch holds a cable, which crosses to the internal bank, with a net on the end. When plovers land on the bank, the net is released and the birds are trapped in the water. This plover catch is one of a pair (the other being located to the north), and remained in use until about 1947.{1}{2}
