Full Description

A lime burning business was established in the late 19th century, in this area to the east of Grantham Road. The site had five lime kilns, with production starting in 1872. Stone for the kilns was obtained from a number of quarry pits located around the kilns. Production ceased at some point during the First World War, with the site being marked as 'Old kilns' on the Ordnance Survey County Series map of 1932, indicating that production did not resume after the war. {1}{2}{3}{4}
