A Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan) is indicated on the County Series map of 1905 as being on the corner of Hill Top and Malt Kiln Lane, which is probably one of those mentioned in White's Directory of 1856. {1}{2}
The chapel no longer survives. {3}
The site was visited in 2009. There are documentary references to a Wesleyan chapel built in 1817 in Chapel Lane, now Maltkiln Lane, which replaced a chapel of 1797 (PRN 65664).These chapels do not appear to survive. The Hill Top Chapel was built in 1850 and was superseded by the chapel in High Street in 1905 (PRN 61252). It is possible that the semi-detached houses on the site incorporate the basic structure of the original chapel building. It has the same footprint as the chapel marked on the County Series Map. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar quoins and has a hipped roof with modern concrete tiles. It has a broad front which, if it represents an older building, has been refenestrated.{4}{5}{6}
