Full Description

Fragmentary, undated human remains (possibly juvenile) were recovered during an excavation of soakaway pit, and were reported by the householder. The site was visited by S. Malowe (APS). The present bungalow occupies the site of former stone cottages. In the garden to the rear the garden soil overlies a layer of stone, tile and slate etc, which presumably is demolition rubble or levelling. Below this is a deposit of compact damp sand from which the bones were apparently recovered, although the deepest part of the soakaway was already backfilled, so the context was not completely clear. The bones were apparently about 6 feet below the ground. The police talked to the daughter of the former occupants of the cottages who remembers her father digging up bone in the garden, so there may be more burials. {1}
