Full Description

Two diagnostic microliths were recovered during the excavations at Baston Quarry No 2, The Meadows. One is a rod microlith, the other is probably a rod microlith, with the edge blunted. They are dateable to the late Mesolithic. They may have formed part of a composite weapon, could be isolated losses, or they could be the result of manufacturing or retooling. Also 10 small, fine blades were recovered. The flakes suggest that they were knapped from a core which had been reduced before it was brought to the site. The localised nature of the scatter suggests small scale occupation by a specialised task group. {1}
