Full Description

Four evaluation trenches were dug in the area adjacent to the Haven Cinema. There was structural evidence on the site dating from the thriteenth to the sixteenth centuries (see 13539). In the seventeenth century there is a break in the artefactual evidence which may represent the use of the site as permanent pasture. A map of 1741 shows the majority of the site to be a garden of a building fronting South Square. As in previous periods, many pits were present. {1}{2}
