Full Description

Two Neolithic stone axes were found in 1906, during ploughing on land at Skellingthorpe. Their exact findspots are unknown. One is a very small-butted example of Borrowdale Ash, whilst the other is of greyish stone, measures 13cm and is flat-sided. They were both donated to Lincoln Museum. {1}{2}{3}{4} The axes were thin-sectioned, with the Borrowdale stone thought to be of group VI banded type, and the grey example being of tuff stone. {5}
