Full Description

PRN 35227 In the winter of 1974 when work was beginning on the new Welland House School, the foundation trenches revealed some walls and medieval occupation material. Most importantly, four round-headed arches forming a subterranean arcade were also revealed. These are believed to have formed part of the rere-dorter of St Michael's nunnery. {1} The rere-dorter and its associated features are the subject of scheduling 22607. {2} During a watching brief, parallel alignments of two undated limestone features covered in rubble were recorded, thought to be a wall or drain. If a drain, the feature may be associated with the reredorter.{3}{4}
