PRN 43801
A brewery occupied land adjacent to High Street during the nineteenth century, and is believed to have been destroyed by bombing during the Second World War.{1}{2}
During trial trenching on the site a probable cellar to the brewey was identified, as well as ditches and pits possibly also associated with the brewery, or slightly earlier activity. Pottery and well-preserved organic artefacts were recovered from these features.{2}{3}
A watching brief identified walls, three wells and three surfaces, some or all of which may be associated with the brewery. A lead-glazed stoneware bottle bearing the stamp 'I GUNSON WAINFLEET' may identify the brewery as the location of the Gunson brewing establishment. Isaac Gunson was a brewer recorded as living in Wainfleet All Saints in the mid-19th century. See also PRN 44035.{4}{5}
