Full Description

Before 1876 Charles Tooley Stephenson was established in the Mount Bridge Iron Works off Skirbeck road. The appraoch road to the foundry was named Tooley Street and a short street off it was named Charles Street; the names are now swapped about. The first houses hereabouts may have been erected by him; he is said to have employed about 120 men at one time. Like Tuxford's, his foundry was just outside the borough boundary which, in fact, formed the western edge of his site. In 1882 he is mentioned as C.T.Stephenson and Son, and is also described as having premises in Carre Street, Sleaford. The Boston foundry is also marked on the 1887 OS plan but is not mentioned again in directories, so presumably he concentrated on his Sleaford works after this time. By 1902 houses had been erected over the whole site and nothing of the foundry remained. {1}{2}
