Full Description

A Roman hoard containing 44 coins, 1 brooch and a piece of jewelry with an intaglio was reported to the coroner. The coins were silver denarii, and were of Trajan, Hadrian and Faustina, and was therefore early to mid second century. Some of the coins are encrusted, and so the dating of the hoard may change as the coins are identified. It was found buried deeply by a drainage contractor while digging a trench. {1} A hoard of silver denarii found on 24 August 1999 while drainage-digging on farmland. 44 denarii, 1 finger ring, 1 bronze brooch and a course-ware pottery container buried about 163AD {2}.
