Full Description

PRN 70106 During work for a water mains replacement, evidence for a post medieval road of pitched limestone construction was found beneath the present road from Lincoln to Burton. There was no evidence for this being on the line of a Roman road. The post medieval road was carefully constructed using pitched limestone pieces and occasionally reused broken flagstones. In places the road was laid over undisturbed limestone bedrock. The road surface was seen in the southern part of the trench line. {1}{2}
